Ich Bin Ein Doppelganger

Greenpeace has reanimated a famous dead president to push a sustainable energy message for conference in Berlin. I’ve never liked these kind of CG Lazarus treatments because they always end up looking rather creepy. Given that it’s Halloween, perhaps that’s appropriate.

I don’t think these are a great idea because they tend to unsettle people. We know that’s not really what they’re saying and it turns people we are familiar with into puppets.

It’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers dressed up as poignant advocacy.

At least this one is used for a “social” message. It’s really creepy when you use Gandhi to sell cell phones, like in Italy, that one is really unfit, i think.

  2. Scott Says:

Let’s give a little respect to death people! Doesn’t matter if they were public persons I think we have to respect them and also respect the family which is still alive.

That video is remarkable, I’m not a pro at video editing but i have to say that i have created more believable videos and I’m amazed at all the thought that was put into this piece yet they definitely didn’t follow through in the technical department. If JFK had survived that shooting he would probably be talking more about the gun problem in the united states. Perhaps there should be another party called “gunpeace”

  4. Bethany Marquee Says:

I agree Scott, a little respect goes a long way

  5. Focus Says:

Yeah it is creepy using dead people to sell things, they surely need permission to do that?!

  6. Zara clothing Says:

I think the relatives have to send the lawers after them! This is insane!

  7. Ernie Small Says:

yeah… something doesn’t seem quite right about that ad. maybe it’s the slightly charachaturish accent, maybe it’s the fact that with obama on his way to the presidency kennedy seems less relevant.. maybe it’s a respect for the dead thing. i did like the touch of the “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” thing at the end. sort of seemed to spread out the historical referencing a bit.

  8. Stomatologie Says:

OMG … this is insane and miss respect for dead people

  9. cohnsey Says:

i hate these types of commercials. let the dead be dead!

  10. Energy Says:

How is that even allowed? Doesn’t the family have some kind of rights as to how their relatives are represented. I just don’t understand.

  11. Michael Pedersen Says:

I don’t understand your concerns for the lack of respect for JFK - He would have been more than happy and proud, if he knew, that he was used in an ad for better climate on earth!!!

Look at the message in the commercial instead!

  12. Abdullah Says:

yes i belive it , we have to respect them and also respect the family which is still alive.

  13. Thomas Bell Says:

Why people not let the dead be dead?

  14. Irish Says:

I’ve heard that speech before. Who actually made it? It sounds like something from Clinton?

  15. casa Says:

They might as well dig him up and parade him around in thier television spots.

  16. Dimi Says:

It does look creepy! I guess all presidents and famous people will always be bugged like this after 100s of years and more!

  17. IrateSloth Says:

I definitely agree with a lot of the comments, I don’t think its very respectful to someone as beloved as JFK to be making crappy video’s and advertising anything, even if it is a social issue. I also think its a bad idea because it is creepy, there are many better advertisements they could have done that would have had a much larger impact in my opinion.

Really getting fed up after seeing these type of dramas! If you really want to respect them you don’t need to make any show.

  19. hyperjedz Says:

yes, i guess they just want this video to be controversial. They should’ve used someone famous and respectable AND alive. The way his lips are moving made him look like a puppet.

Very disrespectful and the video editing was not that great either.

  23. Whosa Says:

Capitalizing on the dead in the name of social advocacy may be acceptable if there are no hidden agenda lurking in the minds of organizers. JFK, however, is not a good option in all respects. Why not Al Gore?

  25. Samuel Says:

Well the editing was a mess and actually I didn’t like the video I find it a little bit annoying.

  26. Dennis Says:

A little respect for a great man would be nice. Greenpeace has no respect for anything though so it’s not surprising.
