Light Graffiti
Wow. Just wow. This has to be, far and away, one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a while.
This is the work of a crew known by Lichtfaktor that do ‘graffiti’ with time-lapse photography, LED lights, torches, glow sticks and even fireworks. The result is ethereal and striking.
I love graffiti. I love finding something new and unexpected. I love the medium, the method of communication and the transformation of something to serve a new purpose.
Sadly, a lot of graffiti fails miserably as it is of the “somebody was here” or “for a good time call…” variety. But then there are the pieces that really capture your attention, that make you think and that is what redeems it. I really like how something as common as a brick wall can be turned into something else. Unfortunately, that generally involves creating art on somebody else’s property and most of the time, they aren’t that pleased about it.
This is brilliant. Graffiti has never been a lasting art form because today’s masterpiece is painted over tomorrow. This negates the necessity to remove the art because it doesn’t leave a lasting mark to be removed. These are pieces that take London streets and landmarks and turn them into a glimpse of something that might exist. It is a glimpse of London in an alternate universe and I am completely enamored with it.
They have a great slideshow on Flickr that you can find here.

I used sparklers with the same camera settings this July to get the same effect. Try spelling your name, it looks so cool.

These are beautiful, and really showcase the power of light and photo. If you are ever interested in cool light images with black and white film, look at pictures created with 2800 film. It’s graining and creates awesome images!

Ow! Nice pictures!! How were they made?
I want to try this technique. The possibilities are amazing, and the effect is so cool!
If you find out how were they done, please reply!
Thanks a lot!

If you’re curious about how the pictures were taken you can click on the link in the post to go to their site. They show all the tools used and detail their technique. It’s quite cool.

This light graffiti is a great idea, thanks for telling people about it
Since my FZ30 camera can do long-ish exposures I’ll try to see what results I can get from sparklers and a torch

This is amazing! The second photo is actually quite beautiful with the bright colors and curves. It’s like the henna of photography…

That is some really cool art right there. I too love “graffiti” art but always call it art when it is deserving. Banksy is one of the greatest grffiti artist out there today and if anybody hasn’t heard of him, trust me he is worth it.

Those guys are amazing, I’ve tried to do graffiti but failed… My friends are pretty good at it. Some graffiti artist create stuff that seem so surreal and cool. I’m going to go check out some of “Banksy’s” work and see if he is really that great. = ]

This is beautiful (and a good article), but the thing is when I hear graffiti - I think of tagging and stencils and stuff like that. Light graffiti seems like a bit of an oxymoron. Nonetheless, we’re going to do a post and link to you guys

I think our work is wanting to make a Christmas card out of time lapse photography. I love the animated Sprint phone commercials that they’ve done with the same techniques.

It looks really amazing! I’ve tried many times to do something like that, but didn’t create anything like this!
